Types of dog competitions
Dog shows
At a regional German Shepherd show, the dogs' conformation is judged class by class. The judge assesses build, movement and the dog's overall type.
Breed surveys
A breed survey assesses a dog's temperament and conformation for admission to breeding. The dog must show a sound temperament and meet the conformation requirements of the breed.
Trials
IGP trials test the dog in three phases — tracking, obedience and protection. At a trial, dogs compete for the CACT title and for placings in each IGP level.
